Finally, something new!

This summer has not been much for craftiness or inspiration I'm sad to report. I have a lot of good ideas but I'm not really all that pumped to do anything these days. My craft room has been storing a bunch of leftover school supplies and things. I don't know why or how I could be on a crafter's block but I seem to be *sigh*. I did manage to make my way to Brushfire last week to just be by myself (even though most days I am) and create something. It was so relaxing in there, I knew what I wanted and I was on a mission to complete my project in a day. Needless to say I was successful.

I've also finished my window pane project that I have been talking about for so long. I love the way that the wordage turned out on it. I will be sad to sell it, but I don't know what I would do with it at my house. I need to do some more and get rid of the 3 panes I still have in my garage.

2nd showing hung

That title doesn't really make a whole lot of sense to an outsider. With the help of Nancy, Karen, and Rachelle I was able to hang almost all (2 of them didn't fit in the space) on the walls. I have to say that it looks awesome!!! I'm a little stressed that the frames I bought at IKEA aren't going to work. They look a little sketchy to me. My favorite part has to be the waterlily collection behind the receptionist's desk. It's sooooooo cool. I am very excited about my little party on the 14th. I just have to finish invitations and hanging the posters around Eugene. I hope it's a good turn out this time. I made a lot more of the invitations so I am going to try to pass it out to everyone at school. I can't wait for everyone to see it. I'm also hoping that people actually buy some of these prints. Dr. Dexter mentioned that the last photographer sold 4 of her photographs. If I sell at least 6-8 of the 21 photos I will be solid. Let's cross our fingers and get out our checkbooks!

Don't forget to come on September 14!

I'm a winnah...

Just came back from the good 'ole Lane County Fair and I am very pleased with the results. "Sweet Harmony", my piano keys, ended up getting a blue ribbon and a $25 certificate- which totally kicks my previous $3 winnings. Also, my two other photos both received an Honorable Mention ribbon so that was good. All in all, I feel like I made out pretty well.

I'm getting kind of nervous about the fact that I have to have my photos ready to be hung in 2 weeks. I still don't have 7 frames and I just ordered my prints today. I also received my order for my cards and once again I biffed up on order and now a have 200 clear bags of the wrong size. Boo HOO. On top of all of that, I still have to buy 5 mat boards and I have a big fat "0" in my checking account. Perhaps I will be a Van Gogh and not actually make any money until after I pass away.

Sad really :o(.

Tomorrow is judgement day...

I will be going to the fair with Mrs. Fischer tomorrow to see if my photos gained any attention. I have a feeling this one might, but it's under the industrial category so I don't know. That might just confuse people. I am also hoping that the rose one will get some recognition, but we will have to see on that.

Yesterday I went up to IKEA to get 10 black frames and guess what... they were all out. In fact, they were out of a lot of their frames when I was up there. It was pretty sad. So I will have to make another trip, once again, up there to see if I can get 7 more frames. The rest I will buy at Michaels. I'm getting kind of nervous though. Don wants me to set up on the 28th which is only 2 weeks away and I don't feel really ready.

The reception will be at a later date so that will be nice. I think I am going to go with the popular flickr theme, "The World Through My Eyes". The reception area is going to be all floral and the hallways will be shots of places I've been to. Behind the reception desk will be 3 large photos with a waterlily theme to it.

Hopefully, I will sell some things during this showing because it's going to cost me an arm and a leg to buy all of this stuff. I've estimated over $400-$500. I will have to charge more for the pictures in the reception area compared to the ones in the hallway. I think around $125 for those and $100 for the others.

Well, I am off to do some shopping today and get something in my belly. I'll let you know how I did tomorrow.

My Second Showing

I asked Dr. Dexter if I could do another photography showing at his office. He just e-mailed me back and said I could possibly do one this Sept-Oct!!! Very exciting. My mind if already racing about which ones I should put in. I guess it depends on it I have the whole space or only a section of it. If I have the whole space I think I am going to showcase all the places that I have lived: My Oregon (main lobby), My Cali (hallway), and My Alaska (other hallway). Even though it's expensive to set up it's really worth it and I will start now on getting the word out there to invite other people and maybe even have appetizers and a section where I can sell my photo cards and my candles that I have been working so hard on. Very exciting. Let me know if you have any suggestion of photos you'd like to see displayed.

Colby Cottage

Colby Cottage is such a sweet and whimsical place. Even though I have known Cathy and Emma for a couple of years this was the first time I had been to their house. I left their house feeling very jealous and full of envy. They have a huge space filled with many magical and sweet things. Lots of things to look and a lot of things to photograph. Loved it.

Should I be worried...

The other day (or maybe it was today- I can't remember) Micky asked if I had realized that other companies can use my pictures without any consent needed. I guess in a way I did realize this, after all, a couple of my friends and family members have tried to download and print my photos via my flickr site and it seemed (overall) to work. I did not fully realize that companies could use it without your permission. On each photo there is a copyright on it stating "All Rights Reserved", so you think there would be some kind of safe guarding but it leaves me to wonder... if it ok to post my photos to flickr.

The reason I have used flickr for so long is because it's an easy way for people to access my photos and view them. I guess that comes with the good, the bad, and the ugly viewing them as well- the "unknown". I'm sure I could get Micky to make a site for me that's easy to upload and easy to view. I would just hate the mundane task of uploading all 400 photos again.

For now I am okay with using flickr and the off chance that someone might use. There is so much talent on that site that I doubt my photos would even get a second glance. But this has raised a lot of questions for me, if I choose to get serious with my photography, and I will have to think of some alternatives in the meantime.

That's all for now.
